Veterans are an honored breed
They protect our freedom, yes indeed
Standing guard at many stations
They protect our sacred nation
Stop and thank a vet today
Never forget their service given
No doubt without their leading the way
This would be a very different place we live in
For all who sacrificed and served
Here's a meal, well deserved.
Veterans Day was originally a celebration of peace, not war. It was a moment of collective and stated opposition to further violence.
In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I. In 1926, Congress passed a resolution that November 11th should be commemorated with "thanksgiving and prayer and exercises designed to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations.”
