We never miss a Saturday meal, which means we will be celebrating a special Christmas Day meal together! Join us on Saturday, December 25th, and make sure to wear your cheeriest holiday garb! Bring your jingle-bells! Masked-caroling is encouraged! Cozy up with some free hot cocoa too.
Sign up for a Christmas Day volunteer shift soon. Spots are limited!
This year, we are making December 25th extra special by giving out Christmas gifts to all our neighbors. Do you have something you'd like to contribute? You can drop off your community gift at Stone Soup Café on any upcoming Friday or Saturday and we will give them out on Christmas Day. (Please do not wrap the gift, so folks can actually see what the item is!)
Ideas for community gifts ~
Thanks for making this upcoming Christmas extra special.
This week’s volunteer spotlight: Taan Herberger-Brown!
You may recall reading about Taan in the Washington Post article published a couple of weeks ago!
When he’s not signing autographs at the Café, Taan attends Greenfield Community College, where he’s studying criminal justice. He also loves to hike Poets Seat, and he’s starting to learn how to paint with acrylics. He attends recovery meetings, bible study, and plays any piano he sees-- to everyone's delight!
Taan attended Northampton High School, having moved to the area from Vancouver Island, Canada. After high school, he joined the Navy and worked on submarines, then became a bouncer at local venues. His musical talent likely comes from his dad, who is also a local musician, and his joyful spirit probably comes from his mom, who is an honest-to-goodness mermaid in Costa Rica!
Taan’s favorite thing about volunteering is chatting with the other volunteers. He loves listening to stories that Steve and Daniel tell, and enjoys working around good folks.
Thanks for being an incredible volunteer, Taan! You bring such positive energy to the Café every Saturday!
Start 2022 off on the right foot by joining Stone Soup Café's antiracism book group!
The last book we read together was "Me and White Supremacy" by Layla Saad (if you missed that book and you're interested in reading it, you can still join an accountability group starting in January here).
The next book that we will be reading together starting in mid-January is "How to Be an Antiracist" by Ibram X Kendi.
Want in?
Thank you to the 84 of you who filled out our first community survey!
Our working group created this second survey to continue to get to know you! What's next? In January/February we will be hosting a couple of Community Chats! If you're interested in joining the working group to design and facilitate these conversations, email us at info@thestonesoupcafe.org.
